MakPower

DESIGNER / BRANDING

The MAKPower Technology Inc HQ is based in New York, but their presence extends worldwide across four continents. Their expertise in designing, manufacturing, supplying and commissioning power solutions has earned them a stellar reputation of reliability globally. I was working as Graphic Designer for their brand to create an updated brand identity and visual language.  

The Challenge

With the expanded growth and reach across several continents, Makpower required an updated brand identity and visual identity that appealed to larger masses and help them grow their business to take on bigger challenges.

The Solution

After several discussions with the regional team of Makpower and through discovery we were able to nail down the oppurtunity of creating a power solutions brand that could be the best in its industry. We were able to determine the different kinds of customers ranging from MNC's and SME's to the everyday consumer who required solutions for their power needs.

The mission of enhancing lives and sustaining the environment with power solutions that are safe, effecient, dependable and easy to maintain was born after understanding how several leading companies in business sectors depend on MakPower to help them with their power electronic requirements.

The brand vision that was effectively discovered was that using Makpowers products they would aid the consumers to effectively tackle their power challenges with solutions that are safe, efficient, dependable and easy to maintain.


In order to stand out in the market, the visual identity had to look different from their competitors, so the identity featured a lot of clean and premium typography that were easy to read across their campaigns and manuals. The aesthetic moved from the older bold look to a more desirable minimal and premium look that transcended across their identity.

The Process

Discovery and User Research

The discovery process involved extensive competitor research as their brand update required them to stand out in a pool of existing and succesful enterprises in the industry. A number of interviews were conducted with various employees and distributors of Makpower to understand their positioning in the industry. This research process helped us understand what the business required and what they were expecting for their new brand.

Logo Design

The Logo had to be redesigned but couldnt inculcate a lot of changes because Makpower was already an established brand so the new logo took shape in the form of cleaner strokes and neat typography that could be used across all forms of media. The MAKPOWER logo is composed of a sinewave symbol and the wordmark composed in Gilroy typeface .

Visual Elements of the Brand

The sinewave is the main visual element of the brand that is used across various forms of media depicting that Makpower is providing Uninterrupted Power for years at hand. There was also the use simple shape elements like lines along with strong usage of typography that were across the brand to provide a premium yet minimalistic appeal.

Brand Guide and Other Documents

The visual identity done for the Makpower brand was then later compiled into a short brand guide along with the creation of a brochure that served as their initial announcement of their rebrand. The new visual identity was then adopted onto a number of documents such as their product datasheets and flyers.
