Volume
DESIGN. CREATIVE DIRECTION. USER EXPERIENCE
Volume is a reading service delivering uniquely crafted content. This startup was a unique amalgamation of technology, storytelling and design. I was working as the Head of Design at Volume, help set up Social Media design, User Experience and Creative Direction.
The Challenge
To work with the founders of the company to buildup a design language and foundation for a unique brand identity that is bringing one of the most immersive reading experiences by combining art, design, technology and impeccable storytelling, right at the palm of your hand.
The Solution
Creating a brand that in it's heart speaks 'For the Love of Stories' through a design language that's quite different to it's competitors. Using the colour yellow that we see in our books and stories, to create a unique brand identity that revolves around the joys of being a storylover.
The logo wordmark was created to signify Volume's ability to be strong, progressive brand revolving around stories yet be functional across a multitude of use cases. The 'Yellow Dot' in the wordmark was an ode to the fullstop, which signfies the end of the traditional means of publishing and a new beginning to the new waves of digital publishing that is Volume.
The tagline 'Crafting Immersive Storytelling Experience' was created to signify the vision that is to reimagine publishing in this century. Taking this tagline by it's word there was a unique user experience created for readers taking them through a platform that was recieved to be 'Netflix for Stories'. The art directed visuals for each story allowed them to be unique to Volume's platform. These visuals elevated stories from a mere bunch of words on black and white and a touch colour and expression to provide a more immersive form of reading.
Creative Direction
At Volume, I got the opportunity to collaborate and work with writers to do the direction of web pages. At Volume, every content is a new Static Webpage. As a creative director at Volume, I could work with other designers and artists to make the vision come to reality and get the content deployed online.
User Experience and User Interface
Worked on user experience at Volume. I led the team to design the initial wireframes and prototypes for the closed beta for version 1.0.0. I had conducted one on one interviews with focus groups to test out the closed beta andwe uncovered several user exeprience issues regarding the product and this helped improve it's overall user experience. There were cycles of testing through which the observations and results was sent through feedback loops to the engineering team and the necessary changes were made.
Design
Worked on several creatives across the company varying for things like cover arts for the content to the social media posts. Cross collaborated with the Marketing and Editorial team to come up with various creatives and also created several icons and logos.
